Long time, no blog!

Wow! Its been a long time since I've updated here. We've been busy, busy bees! We are not home enough for me to really sit down to write up a blog post. We've been gone almost every day with gym class, story time, dance class, Girl Scouts, American Girl Club, Lego Club and the list goes on! Anyway we've had a pretty mild winter, only a few snows and the snow lasts for a day or so. Spring is right around the corner! Here are a few things that we did last Fall and early Winter. I hope to post more of what's going on with us soon!

Annie, Spiderman and Superman!

Sparkles our Elf came and visited our house again this year. He got up to lots of mischief!

A trip to our local Science Museum during the holidays:

Picking out our xmas tree!

At Winter Wonderland!

 Reading books with Grandma!
My little chicken watching the lights at the Zoo. I made the hat! :)

P has been wanting Bo Peep for a long time! I finally found one for a good price on eBay, since they don't make her anymore!

I painted these planets for C. He is really into space right now. I also made the bag to go along with it!

I painted these super heroes and made the bag to go along with it for P. I used this tutorial on Little Blue Boo. You should check out her journey if you get a chance, it is really heartbreaking and inspiring!

That's all for now!

Spiders!

We studied spiders last week. P wanted to study spiders after studying dinosaurs and owls! Next he wants to study Hawks, but we'll see if he still wants to study them, when I can get to them in January. I've been letting P pick a topic and we'll do a unit study around that topic. He really loves doing this as he is interested in it and just soaks up what we are studying. We have some fun units coming up, The Real Thanksgiving and a Christmas' Around the World unit study.

Our spider lapbook:

We did a crayon rubbing of a spider web in the book The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle.
We went on a spider hunt and found quite a few spiders. I was really surprised how many spiders we did find in such a short amount of time! I couldn't get good pictures of most of the spiders, but we did find lots!

The Spider is in the very middle.

We also made these cool spiders for our door, as decorations for Halloween! The kids really love moving these around! (We glued magnets to spider rings, after cutting off the ring part.)

We made a spider web on the floor with painters tape. The kids had tons of fun being spiders and catching sticky bugs (and eachother!) in the web. This picture was taken many days after lots of fun with it!

Then we did sparkly spider webs and glued some spiders on them.

We watched some spider videos, the kids especially liked the trap door spider video.

We really enjoyed this book about spiders. It told about all different kinds and the kids loved looking at the pictures and reading the cool facts.

Sewing!

Here is what I've been up to sewing lately! I haven't done very much through Summer, as we always seem to be going somewhere or doing something outside.

These are dresses for my good friend's daughter, baby sister (due soon!) and her daughter's doll. I hope she likes them!

Here are car rolls for my friends sons.

A pouch sling for the baby sister above. I used to make these to sell, but I don't have enough time now.

Super Hero capes for my boys. They LOVE these! I got the pattern and the templates from Georgia Leigh. Great tutorial and printable superman/spider man templates. I made them reversible with Spider Man/Superman for P and Superman/Flash for C. They have worn these every day since I made them, they even wore them to our little home town festival and the County Fair!

Dinosaur Unit Study!

We did a lapbook unit study on dinosaurs this summer! I'm finally getting around to posting about it! We mostly used this lapbook and study guide for our dinosaur unit. Although I would not recommend the book they used for most of the unit, it wasn't scientific enough for this mama! It was a great study guide though and had some great activities. I also found some other printables from Enchanted Learning. The kids had a lot of fun doing it!

Here is the lapbook:

Under blue flap:

P's favorite dinosaur was the Ankylosaurus. This poem was in one of the books we read.

Here the kids are digging dinosaur "bones" out of clay. I got this cool kit from Hobby Lobby.

The kids are being paleontologists again and getting dinosaurs out of the ice. They mostly melted it in the pool!

We made a dinosaur diorama! P had a ton of fun coloring and gluing in the dinosaurs.

We also made dinosaur "eggs" out of paper mache and a balloon and painted them, but I can't find those pics!

Then we visited a Natural History museum near us that had dinosaur bones! The kids really loved this!

The kids acting "scared" of the T-Rex behind them!

I also recently got our time line up on the wall! I used blue painters tape. We are lamenting and adding facts as we go along.
